Our goal is to create the kind of place we wish had existed for Kylee: somewhere women can find safety, stability, practical help, compassion, and a real path forward.
Our goal is to build the kind of place we wish had existed for Kylee.
A place where a woman is not defined by her worst day, where asking for help does not come with impossible expectations, and where one missed meeting, one mistake, or one setback does not mean losing the support she desperately needs.
Kylee was surrounded by people and systems that should have protected her, supported her, and recognized how much she was struggling. Too many opportunities to help her were missed.
Smilee Kylee exists because we acknowledge that we didn't do enough for her.
There are things we wish we had understood sooner, questions we wish we had asked, and moments we wish we could go back and handle differently.
We cannot change those moments now. But we can learn from them.
We do not want another woman to fall through the same cracks.
To us, finding justice for Kylee is about more than handcuffs and prison bars.
Justice also means confronting the failures and mistakes that helped lead to a young woman reaching a point where she was so vulnerable.
It means asking what could have been done differently—and then doing something differently for the next woman.
That is what we want Smilee Kylee to become.
We envision a shelter for women that offers more than a bed. We want to create a home where women can stabilize their lives while gaining the tools, resources, support, and confidence they need to move forward.
The goal is not simply to hand someone a list of resources and send her on her way.
The goal is to help her actually access those resources and use them in a realistic way.
A stable place to stay while a woman works toward safety, independence, and her next chapter.
Connections to counseling and mental-health support so women do not have to navigate difficult moments alone.
Education, guidance, and resources for women who are pregnant, parenting, or trying to create stability for their families.
Practical help with budgeting, money management, financial literacy, and preparing for independent living.
Résumé building, job-search assistance, interview preparation, and help getting back into the workforce.
Support and connections for women dealing with substance use, recovery, relapse, or the challenges that come with rebuilding their lives.
Real-world education designed to help women manage responsibilities, solve problems, and prepare for life beyond the shelter.
Help finding and connecting with services instead of expecting someone in crisis to figure everything out alone.
A structured plan that helps each woman move from surviving toward stability, confidence, employment, housing, and independence.
There will be structure. There will be expectations. There will be accountability.
But there will also be grace.
The women who need this kind of help may miss appointments. They may relapse. They may make decisions other people do not understand.
They may be scared, angry, overwhelmed, depressed, traumatized, or unsure whether they are ready to change their lives.
Those may be the moments when they need someone not to give up on them the most.
Smilee Kylee is currently a developing vision and is not yet operating an emergency shelter or residential program.
As the organization grows, this page will be updated with more information about the shelter model, services, partnerships, eligibility, program structure, location planning, and the steps required to make this vision a reality.
If you are currently in danger or need immediate shelter, please use established emergency and community resources.
We cannot change what happened to her. We cannot give her back the future she deserved.
But we can take what we have learned, including the mistakes we wish we could undo, and use it to build something that may change another woman's future.
So we will build it in her name.
